The Thirteenth International Conference of the College of Science and the Second for Computer Science 2026 (Computing Systems and Security Applications - ICCSSA) will be held at the College of Science, Mustansiriyah University, Baghdad, Iraq, 1-2 April 2026.

ICCSSA intends to bring together researchers, scholars, and professionals on a scientific forum to discuss the latest breakthroughs, new technologies, and novel research in the disciplines of computing systems and applied security. The conference covers a broad spectrum of topics including, but not limited to, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning and Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Expert Systems, Robotics, Cybersecurity, Network Security, Cryptography, Digital Forensics, Cloud Security, Operating Systems, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Mobile Computing, Multimedia Technologies, Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR), Game Design, 3D Modeling and Animation, Network and Cloud Computing, Wireless Networks and 5G, Big Data Analytics, Data Mining, Database Systems, and Applied Mathematics in Computing. The conference is co-published by: Proceedings of the International Conference on Applied Innovations in IT (Scopus), and Springer Series (Scopus).

ICCSSA is organized by the Department of Computer Science, College of Science, Mustansiriyah University, in collaboration with Dijla Co. Pvt. Ltd.

ICCSSA will feature a comprehensive technical program, including a fair number of workshops, symposia, and exhibitions on computing systems and applied security.

Welcome to our College of Science

About Mustansiriya University

The original Mustansiriya Madrasah was established in 1227 (or 1232/34 A.D. by some accounts) by the Abbasid Caliph Al-Mustansir and was one of the oldest universities in the world. Its building, on the left bank of the Tigris River, survived the Mongol invasion of 1258 and has been restored.

The modern Mustansiriyah University was established with the help and financial support of the Republic of Ίrāq Teacher’s Union in 1963, mainly providing evening courses. In 1964, the University was given the status of a semi-state institution and some state financial support. At the same time it absorbed Al-Sha’ab University, another private university that had been founded by the Ίrāqi Association of Economists, and then moved to a new campus to the north of the city centre. Initially, the University also managed colleges in Mosul and Basra.

In 1966 a law was passed under which the private universities were converted into public universities. Mustansiriyah thus became, briefly, a College within the University of Baghdad. In 1967 a major reorganisation of higher education was initiated, with the intention that by 1969 all previous institutions would be abolished and reconstituted. Mustansiriyah was designated as a separate University in 1968, and its branch campuses were detached to form part of the University of Mosul and the University of Basra.

College of Science at Mustansiriyah University

The College of Science is a distinguished scientific and educational institution with a history of more than fifty years, dating back to the founding of Al-Mustansiriyah University in 1963. Located on Palestine Street, the college began with the Departments of Mathematics and Physics as its academic foundation. The Department of Chemistry was established in 1980, followed by the Department of Biology in 1983. In its pursuit of scientific advancement and in keeping pace with global developments, the college later opened the Department of Atmospheric Sciences in 1992, the Department of Computer Science at the start of the 1996–1997 academic year, and the Department of Microbiology in 2023.

Currently, the college comprises seven departments: Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Biology, Microbiology, and Atmospheric Sciences—the latter specializing in the study of atmospheric layers, climate, and desertification. It also houses the Polymer Research and Industrial Applications Unit, dedicated to research in polymer chemistry. A major milestone in the college’s history was the introduction of postgraduate studies in the Department of Mathematics in the 1970–1971 academic year, followed by the Department of Physics in 1984, Chemistry in 1986, Biology in 1988, Atmospheric Sciences in 1990, and Computer Science in 2001. Doctoral studies were launched in the Department of Mathematics in 1993–1994, Physics in 1992, Chemistry in 1993, Biology in 1992, and Atmospheric Sciences in 2003.

In the 2018–2019 academic year, the college introduced a PhD program in Computer Science and a master’s program in Biotechnology within the Department of Biology. In 2023, a Higher Diploma program in Climate Change was established, followed in the 2023–2024 academic year by master’s specializations in Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Inorganic Chemistry. Regarding undergraduate studies, the Medical Physics branch was introduced in the Department of Physics, and the Cybersecurity branch in the Department of Computer Science, during the 2022–2023 academic year.
